Lotto88, based in Kota Kinabalu, is the organizer of 4D – a quite popular and promising Malaysian game. Established back in 1988 (hence the name), this lottery organization has some prominent entries in its portfolio – 3D and 4D, Lotto and 4D Jackpot.
4D is currently the most popular Lotto88 game. The format is pretty standard, and there are various other similar games – Magnum 4D, DaMaCai, and Toto 4D all follow the same principle, and all enjoy relatively high popularity in Malaysia.
There are several reasons why Toto88’s 4D game is so popular. The fact that players have freedom over the amount that they bet is probably the leading one.
4D Rules
To play 4D, lotto enthusiasts have to choose a four-digit number in the range from 0000 to 9999. Matching one or more of the numbers drawn will result in a prize that is the amount of bet multiplied by a specific factor.
The bigger the bet, the bigger the prize is going to be.
Players can also choose among two bet varieties – a big bet and a small bet.
The big bet is suitable for low-risk players. It provides better odds of winning a prize. The small bet is a bit more challenging, but the return is going to be much higher to compensate the player for the risk.
In the case of a big bet, the player can win any of the 23 sets of numbers being drawn. There will be a first, second, third, 10 lucky and 10 consolation prizes. When a small bet is chosen, the players are provided with an option to win only from the top three four-digit combinations being drawn.
As already mentioned, there will be 23 sets of four-digit numbers per drawing. Each one of them will correspond to a certain prize (see more about the prize structure below). A single entry will cost one Malaysian ringgit. Players, however, can also choose system play. It is more expensive but it increases the odds of winning a prize.
Other than these three standard options, there is also a 4D roll pick (a bet in which one of the digits is substituted by R so that any number from zero to nine can be put in its place) and a quick pick option that consists of a computer-generated ticket. The minimum bet for a permutation is four ringgit.
Drawings take place three times per week – on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. A special drawing is also going to be held on occasions, and better conditions than the standard gameplay will characterize such a drawing.
A ticket can be acquired at any of the authorized Lotto88 retail outlets. At the time being, there is no possibility of buying Sabah 4D tickets online. In Malaysia, there’s a minimum age requirement of 21 for participating in the lottery and bet-style games.
4D Prizes
As already mentioned, prizes are not fixed because players can choose the amount they want to bet and they also have the freedom to opt for either a big or a small bet. The following table will acquaint you with the prize structure that is based on a bet of one ringgit:

The odds of winning the top three prizes in 4D are 1 in 10,000. For the lucky prizes and the consolation, the odds improve to 1 in 1,000. The overall odds of winning a 4D prize are 1 in 435.
Prizes, depending on their size can be claimed from the Lotto88 retail outlets. These work from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on drawing days and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on all other days. The head office, where the bigger prize amounts can be claimed, is located Jalan Tuaran, Kota Kinabalu.
In Malaysia, there is a 15 percent income tax that will apply to lottery prizes, including the amounts won through 4D.
